The Herbal Apprentice
Who I am...
As an herbalist…I am still an apprentice. There is always more to learn, and new ways of understanding the natural healing process. I am currently working on my herbal certification through a respected national organization for Herbal & Botanical Medicine.
I have been studying herbal healing, wildcrafting, and plant medicine making for over 15 years. I have worked professionally in the holistic health field for over 12 years, where I provided therapeutic massage therapy, acupressure, shiatsu, hydrotherapy, energetic assessments, and digestive health consultations. I have also had some formal medicinal botanical education at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts with the great JoAnn Sanchez, an incredible teacher of the herbalism community.
In the last 3 years, I have intensely studied the therapeutic process, safety concerns, toxicity potential, effective delivery methods and the subtle energetic benefits of plants. The interactions of plants on the body is complex, and not always predictable. I believe that herbal remedies can’t fix every problem, but the phytonutrients and effective qualities that plants provide have an important place in the healing our modern stressed out society.
I have found that the effectiveness of using botanicals medicinally relies on the source, freshness, and quality of the plants used. I grow many herbs to assure quality and encourage others to do so. Having a background in sustainability and organic agriculture with a degree in Sustainable Food Systems, it is important to me that botanical remedies are effective, affordable, and available to all.
